Besides my own observations in nature, I base these paintings on the specimen arrangements found in the research collections of natural history museums. My aesthetic is inspired by the un-narrative, crisp-edged compositions of old natural history prints, and I hope that my repetitive patterns percolate to give you a broad impression of a bird's pattern, color, size, and structure. The paintings also become an exploration of repetitiveness and the intimate knowledge to be gained from looking in the same place again and again.
